National PR News
a.
NATA continues to make public relations one of its primary efforts
at the national level – Public Relations outlined specifically in
the NATA’s strategic plan
i.
Hopefully the efforts done nationally to promote the profession will
assist in other strategic plan goals including state licensure
efforts, reimbursement and revenue issues, and job development
b.
Several new promotional items are in the works – including new
promotional videos
c.
Nationally, NATA and athletic trainers have seen a lot of the
spotlight recently
i.
Some of the many articles are posted on the NWATA bulletin board.

NATA PR committee plans to ask BOD to support measure to allocate
money for individual districts and/or states to hire their own PR
consultant to assist in promotional efforts – especially with things
like licensure efforts

III.
District Level PR News
a.
Searching to identify people in the district to utilize as PR
resources
i.
Need to find at least 5 people in each of the district’s media
markets
ii.
Requires minimal time requirement
iii.
Also hoping to identify people working in minority AT settings
iv.
Physician extender, Outpatient therapy, Secondary schools,
College/University, Industrial
v.
Once PR contact lists are established, I will begin email blasts to
media markets when “sports injury news” arises and offer them
information based on NATA Press Releases & Position Statements –
give them names to contact in their area in effort to “localize” the
story
vi.
Remind everyone that athletic training is not always “sports”. Be
sure to include other media reps as contacts.

Request everyone to email me with things going on in your areas –
for NATA News, etc. Anything that can put ATs in positive light –
pictures are encouraged

District PR Newsletter will be posted quarterly on NWATA website.
You can check that out for things going on at the national level as
well as some local tips for promoting the profession.
